Guess what? I mailed off my internship applications on Thursday! Those have been stressing me out since... well, technically last year, so it felt so good to send them in. And then on Friday I went home for the weekend, which was the perfect way to relax after spending the week worrying about applications.
I drove home early on Friday morning since a snow storm was in the forecast, and luckily I managed to avoid the worst of the snow. The first thing I did was visit my mom at work to say hi and bring her a latte, and then I headed to Kindfood to grab myself some lunch. I'm obsessed with their Buddha Bowl (brown rice with sweet potatoes, tomato, avocado, almonds, sunflower seeds, cilantro, olive oil, tamari and marinated tofu)!
I also stopped by their sister bakery Kelly's Bake Shoppe down the street afterwards. Since I don't get to go home often during the school year, I like to hit up all my favourite places when I do. I decided to try their new Skinny cookie, which is made with banana and Sunbutter. It was delicious, but their World Peace cookie still reigns as my favourite!
When I got home, there was an exciting delivery waiting for me from one of my favourite companies...
Chobani! They generously sent this to me as a goodbye gift, since sadly Chobani will no longer be selling in Canada for the foreseeable future. I hope to see them back again soon though!
For dinner I made my mom's request for Chicken Chasseur from Food and Wine magazine. It was pretty good, but I felt like it was missing something. Maybe it was the garlic that I had to leave out because the head of garlic in my parents' cupboard had gone bad! I reamed out my dad for having a poorly stocked kitchen, and he got a real kick out of that.
The main reason I went home for the weekend was actually to give a nutrition presentation to my mom's Girl Guide group, which I did on Saturday. I don't know much I actually got across to them, but at least they enjoyed the snack of fruit kebabs with yogurt dip afterwards!
On Saturday I also went to visit the Terra at Home Market, which is a winter indoor market that just started this year. I think it's a great idea to host a market in the winter so that the community can have access to local vendors year round. There were some really neat stands there, like Sweet Potato Johnny, which had tons of baked goods and frozen entrees made with sweet potato! There was also the Itty Bitty Pie company and other bakeries, a produce stand, The Naked Sprout, Manual Labour Coffee, Terra Teas, and so many more! It was awesome to check out.
The remainder of the weekend was spent finishing the last season of LOST with my mom. And all I can say is "Uhh... what?" The ending confuses me! Also I think I'm suffering from the post-LOST blues now. I hear it's a common ailment among LOST geeks haha.
Luckily I have a busy week ahead to take my mind off it - I've got a yoga and fro yo date with friends, a visit from my mom, and finishing up my grad school application on the agenda. I'll be back with another post on Wednesday though!
What are your favourite places in your hometown?
Did you ever watch LOST? Have you ever been really hooked on a TV show?

Yay mailing off your applications! Definitely nice to get that off your shoulders.
ReplyDeleteAnd Chobani...still makes me sad! It just means that I'll have to plan a shopping trip in Michigan soon and be sure to stock up.
That's awesome about putting a presentation together for the girl Guides! An exciting opportunity, for sure.
Way to go on finishing the applications, Chelsea- it must be such a huge weight off your shoulders :)! And another pat on your back for the presentation- I am not shy but public speaking always makes me nervous!
ReplyDeleteLOST is one show I never actually got into but I heard it's addictive. One of my current favorites is Downton Abbey- I am hooked! If you're looking for a new TV show to get into, I can't recommend it enough!
I used to love lost and was definitely confused and kind of disappointed by the ending! I don't know what I was hoping for but it was definitely unexpected!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on mailing off those apps! Always nice to get a little bit of that weight off your shoulders... and you definitely know how to celebrate with a good weekend :) I've never watched Lost, but everyone seems to love it so I'm thinking it's something I should probably look into... I just have such a hard time with getting myself to sit down and watch TV - there just always seem to be other things that I'd rather be doing.
ReplyDeleteYay!!! Congrats on getting your apps done love! What a relief! And a weekend at home sounds like the perfect way to celebrate :) that Buddha bowl sounds heavenly and now i want something like it for lunch haha. That market sounds awesome! We have one like that in Pittsburgh, which we ate checking out Saturday hopefully! I'm already excited!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the apps! That Buddha Bowl looks amazing. Totally wish that were near me!
ReplyDeletegirl going home and getting a package like that? totally impressed.
ReplyDeleteI HATE the way Lost ended. I felt so ripped off for watching all those years. I wish they would have put some effort into it!! I think I'm going to go hang out at my grandparents one weekend just so I can visit Kindfood, Kelly's AND this indoor market you speak of!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never had the chance to try Chobani since I'm in Edmonton, but know of the whole battle with the milk boards and how they wanted to build a plant in Canada but never started. Is it really any better than Liberte or Oikos or my favourite non Greek yogurt, Astro original 4%? We're getting a good selection here.
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved Lost in its day, and was confused at the ending myself. I don't remember much about the end, so I should watch it on Netflix to refresh my memory. I'm always obsessing over some show, usually a few. The past couple years its been Once Upon A Time. I love twisted fairy tales, and am madly in love with Robert Carlyle as Gold/Rumplestiltskin. Oh to be Belle! I also love Grimm, Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. For comedy I love Big Bang and Two Broke Girls, which is the raunchiest network comedy I've ever seen but it kills me.
You seem to go home a lot! Ah the college days...
ReplyDeleteHow far away is your dorm/apartment?
Um can I visit you? Your town sounds awesome and has such great places for local goodies! Congrats on getting your applications in I know that is HUGE! I bet your presentation was awesome! Honestly you are so full of knowledge and I know you are super passionate! Why is Chobani leaving Canada?
ReplyDeleteI just finished up my internship applications as well, it reals great doesn't it? :-) Glad you had a nice weekend at home after the stress of filling them all out! That buddha bowl looks amazing, I have been in search of a restaurant similar to that one around here for a while, but so far no luck.
ReplyDelete(Also, that is so sad that Chobani isn't selling in Canada anymore!!)
aaah so glad you had a good relaxing delicious weekend at home! That Buddha Bowl looks amazing, and LOL at you lecturing your dad on stocking the kitchen! I'll bet he got a kick out of that for sure. I honestly don't have a favorite local restaurant in my hometown (philly doesn't count cuz I'm 30 minutes outside it), but whenever I'm on the east coast, I have to get me some Wawa coffee and a hoagie!!
ReplyDeletethat Buddha bowl looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteDarn it, trying Chobani was on my bucket list! Do you know if it's still here? Ah, well, serves me right.
ReplyDeleteAw, I remember when you were a girl guide! Must've been nice to go back :)
I watched all of the seasons of Lost on DVD, except for the last one which I watched when it was on TV. The ending....um, yeah...totally confused me. I am still not exactly certain how I feel about it. It definitely leaves it up to your own interpretation, but I almost wish we were given a more definitive idea about what happened. I guess we'll never know... :(
ReplyDeleteI've never watched LOST - doesn't seem like my type of show :) That was so sweet of Chobani - gosh they're such an awesome company!! I love them!!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS on submitting your internship applications! It must feel amazing having that obligation off of your chest! :D When do you find out where you'll be next year?
ReplyDeleteWhat a FUN weekend! I bet your mom loved having you present at her Girl Guide Group. It's neat that you had that opportunity, too--good practice for your future RD-hood!
I'm drooling over the sounds of the Buddha Bowl from Kindfood; talk about a crazy delicious combination of flavors! And how sad that Chobani will no longer be selling in Canada! That's a bummer! However it means that you'll have extra motivation to come to the States, then I'm okay with it. ;)
Hope you're having a great week, Chelsea! <3 xoxoxo
Why isn't Chobani selling in Canada anymore?
