These are all the things I consider necessary to have in my kitchen:
Produce

- LOTS of bananas - at least one for every day!
- Blueberries and/or raspberries
- Apples
- Lemon and lime (for making dressings and marinades)
- Avocado (yay for healthy fats!)

- Tomatoes
- Yellow and red onions
- Sweet peppers
- Carrots
- Cucumber
- Broccoli
- Sweet potatoes or squash
- One or two types of leafy greens: spinach, kale, mixed salad greens, or romaine lettuce
Grains
- Large flake rolled oats
- Multigrain bread (this Rudolph's Bakery multigrain bread is amazing - it's seedy and so chewy!)

- Bulgur, quinoa, millet

- Whole wheat flour
- Kashi Honey Almond Flax cereal - this trumps any other cereal I've ever tried!

- Brown and wild rice
- Mary's Crackers

Dairy
- Skim milk (read about my decision to switch to cow's milk here)
- Vanilla Greek yogurt... yes there are three different kinds of vanilla Greek yogurt in my fridge right now

- Cottage cheese
- Old cheddar cheese
Meat and soy
- Ground turkey and chicken breasts
- Salmon
- Canned tuna
- Eggs and egg whites
- Tofu

- Frozen edamame
Miscellaneous stuff in my pantry/fridge
- Canned pumpkin
- Cacao powder

- All types of canned beans: chickpeas, black beans, kidney beans, lentils
- Coconut milk
- Diced tomatoes
- Low sodium vegetable stock cubes
- Almonds (I love these 1 kg bags from Costco!), pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds

- Chia seeds and ground flax
- Dried fruits: dates, raisins, dried cranberries, goji berries
- Soy nut butter, almond butter, sunflower seed butter, coconut butter

- Hummus (I love Sabra or Garden Fresh)

- Olive oil, canola oil, sesame oil
- Honey, maple syrup, agave nectar
- Tea: orange pekoe, mulled apple cider, blueberry ginseng

- Vinegars: balsamic, red wine, apple cider, rice wine
- Sauces: soy sauce, mirin, sweet thai chili sauce
- Spices and herbs of every kind

Sounds like our kitchens look pretty similar! I love Kashi cereal, and I have been hearing about the new Honey Almond Flax flavor, but I haven't seen it yet! Next time I am shopping, I have to pick some up!

ReplyDeleteYou're right...this is really fun to read!!!! My staples include gluten free bread, brown rice, feta cheese, corn tortillas, hummus, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, sweet potatoes, lots of veggies, bananas, apples.

ReplyDeleteI would love to have a kitchen stocked like that! I feel healthier just looking at it haha. But to be honest, I would want a few treats in there are well- maybe some corn chips, a little block of chocolate etc :)
